Avanhard Stadium

The stadium in Lutsk was built in 1933. The idea of a modern arena for the Volhynian Voivodeship had been raised as early as 1931, and construction was overseen by Voivode Henryk Józewski. On 24 September 1933 the Józef Piłsudski Stadium opened. The centrepiece of the opening ceremony was a friendly match between the footballers of Lutsk and «Warszawianka» (Warsaw), won by the home side 1:0.

The stadium complex comprised an administrative building, spectator stands, a football pitch reached by an underground tunnel, a shooting range, courts for team sports, gymnastics areas and a park.

After the war the stadium was restored and the stands rebuilt. Between 1945 and 1960 it was known as the Lutsk City Stadium.

In 1960 stone stands for 15,000 spectators and an administrative building were erected, and a wooden scoreboard installed. The stadium was renamed «Avanhard». In 1962 the administrative building was refurbished. Later the stadium was handed over to the Lutsk Automobile Plant.

Between August 1980 and April 1981 the stadium was reconstructed: an electric scoreboard and floodlight towers were installed. In the winter of 1993 under-pitch heating was added and the floodlights replaced with more powerful ones.

During the reconstruction from September 2001 to March 2002 individual plastic seats and a modern electronic scoreboard were installed.

In 2012 the reconstruction of the administrative building was completed and a new reconstruction of the stadium bowl began.
